Mary’s Big Dream
In a quiet little island town, a cheerful and determined young girl named Mary loved the night sky more than anything in the world. Every evening, she would sit on the wooden steps of her porch, gazing up at the shimmering stars and the glowing moon. Mary carried a secret ambition that felt larger than the ocean surrounding her: she wanted to become an astronaut and reach out to touch the stars.
One afternoon at school, the teacher asked the class what they wanted to be when they grew up. Mary shot her hand high into the air with a bright grin. "I want to fly into outer space!" she declared proudly. A few of her classmates burst into giggles. "That's impossible for someone from our tiny island," one whispered. "Space is way too far, and you're far too small!"
Stung by their laughter, Mary hurried home with heavy feet and buried her face in her pillow, fighting back tears. Her grandfather noticed her quiet sadness, stepped into her room, and gently sat beside her. When Mary told him what had happened, he smiled warmly and took her hand. "Mary, big dreams belong to brave hearts," he said softly. "The doubts of others only matter if you let them define you. If you work hard, stay curious, and never give up on yourself, there is no corner of the universe you cannot reach."
His words lit a spark deep inside her. Mary wiped away her tears and made a silent promise to keep going. From that day on, she poured her energy into learning everything she could. She borrowed science and math books from the library, spent hours studying astronomy, and built small bottle rockets in the backyard. When her contraptions sputtered and crashed, she didn't sulk—she took notes, adjusted the fins, and launched them again.
Years turned into a steady rhythm of dedication. Mary finished school at the top of her class and earned a scholarship to study aerospace engineering. Through rigorous physical training, endless late-night research sessions, and fierce competition, her quiet persistence never wavered. Eventually, she was chosen to join an elite team of astronauts preparing for a landmark mission.
The day finally arrived. Strapped inside the cockpit of a towering spacecraft, Mary felt the roar of engines echoing beneath her as the rocket pierced the blue sky and soared toward the silence of space. Looking out the window at the swirling blue Earth below and the brilliant sea of stars all around her, Mary smiled through her visor. The skeptics of her childhood had vanished into memory, replaced by the boundless cosmos she had always believed she could reach.
No dream is ever too big when met with patience, courage, and an unshakeable belief in oneself.
