One More Step, Ali!
Little Ali was an energetic boy with a big heart, but he often doubted himself whenever things became difficult. On the island where he lived stood a lush green hill that overlooked the crystal-clear ocean. Every child in the village dreamed of climbing all the way to the top to see the breathtaking view of the sea and the surrounding islands. Ali’s friends had already conquered the peak, but Ali had tried twice before and turned back both times, convinced he wasn't strong enough.
One clear morning, Ali decided to try again, this time alongside his grandfather. The journey started well, but halfway up the trail, the slope steepened. Ali’s legs began to ache, his breath grew ragged, and his pace slowed to a crawl. When he lifted his head and saw the summit still towering far above, his spirits sank.
"Grandfather, I can’t do this," Ali said, slumping down onto a flat rock by the path. "The hill is too high, the path is too long, and I’m out of energy."
Grandfather sat down beside him, patted his shoulder, and smiled gently. "Ali, look down at the dirt path right in front of your shoes. Don’t look at the top of the hill. Can you take just one step?"
Ali blinked, surprised by the question. "Well, yes. I can always take one step."
"Then do not worry about the thousands of steps between here and the top," his grandfather replied softly. "Just focus on the single step directly in front of you. Take that one, and then ask yourself if you can take **one more step**."
Ali stood up, dusted off his shorts, and looked only at the ground beneath his feet. He took a single pace forward. Then another. Whenever his legs trembled and self-doubt whispered that he should turn back, he repeated his grandfather’s words: *"Just one more step, Ali."*
Step by step, pebble by pebble, he kept moving. Before he knew it, the steep incline smoothed out. He took a final step forward, and the trail opened into the sky.
Ali stood at the summit, the cool ocean breeze sweeping across his face as the sparkling blue horizon stretched out in every direction. He had reached the peak not by leaping to the top all at once, but by choosing never to refuse the very next step.
